During the month of November 2018, PHES carried out in collaboration with the Tomillo Foundation and within its Los Olivos community development program, a photography workshop with the objectives of promoting resilient skills, promoting self-knowledge and expression. emotional and to increase interest in culture from photography. The workshop, which has been developed with groups of adult Roma women of Moroccan origin, has consisted of 3 sessions: In the first, the use of photography as a tool for social denunciation was explained, and then each woman was given a camera disposable with the idea that they would photograph those aspects of their environment and their own life that caught their attention. In the second session, Estela de Castro portrayed the women who participated in the workshop with the aim of putting a name and a face on each of them. In this session, the cameras were returned for development, and there was an interesting reflection on the motivation of the photos taken, which led to the sharing of very personal and enriching experiences. In the third and final session, the revealed photos were shared and a video was recorded with the women's reactions to receiving their photos. They were also photographed with a Fujifilm Instax camera to add these snapshots to the PHES notebook along with a short review written for each of them. This workshop results in a traveling exhibition that, in addition to making the reality of these women visible, empowers them and enhances their self-esteem.
